New Super Eagles star explains 'shock' move
Home-based Super Eagles star, Afeez Aremu has offered some explanation to what was widely seen as a shock move to Ghana Premier League side, Inter Allies.
The Nigerian midfielder explained to FCNaija that joining Inter Allies was only meant to serve as an avenue to allow him to complete a January switch to Norwegian side IK Start.
"It is like playing on loan with the Ghana club, I am joining the Norway team' he explained.
Aremu's explanation was also corroborated by Westerlo Football Academy CEO, Dosu Joseph.
“Afeez Aremu to join Ik Start Norway through Inter Allies Fc Ghana, congratulations and all the very best bro,” Joseph wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Inter Allies announced the capture of the Nigerian midfielder but kept details of the deal undisclosed prompting reactions on why Aremu, one of the key members of the Super Eagles bound for the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco next month, opted to leave for Ghana.
“We’re pleased to announce that we have reached agreement with Nigerian side Westerlo Football Academy for the transfer of Afeez Aremu Olalekan.
“Becoming the third signing ahead of the new season, Aremu arrived in the country earlier this week and started training with the ‘Eleven Is To One,’” Inter Allies did announce on their official website on Wednesday.
It is understood that the deal for Aremu’s transfer was kick-started while he represented Nigeria at the WAFU Cup of Nations in Ghana this year.
Aremu, it is also understood, played on loan last season at Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Akwa United.
